CONTRACT: Laverstoke farm Hardstandings
CLIENT: Laverstoke Farm Produce
PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR: Roller Compacted Concrete Company
DATE COMPLETED: March 2006
CONTACT DETAILS: Bob Palmer, Laverstoke Park Produce
Tel: 07960135701
Project Outline
Laverstoke Park Produce, a major organic farm in Hampshire, required a substantial concrete hardstanding for the composting of green waste for use on the farm, and as the floor of a plant maintenance building. A network of access roads was also required. The client identified roller compacted concrete (RCC) as a cost effective solution which could be constructed in the short programme window available.
Pavement Details
The hardstanding pavement consists of a 200mm RCC slab on a cement and lime treated foundation. The access roads featured a cement bound sub-base and 150mm to 170mm of RCC, depending on traffic levels.
Construction Programme
The project had to be carried out in winter so as to be completed by the end of March. The speed of the paving operation enabled progress to be maintained, despite lost time for inclement weather. Up to 2500m² of RCC were laid per day.
Concrete Production
The RCC material was mixed on site using a high output continuous mixing plant and transported to the paver in 25t dump trucks.
Quality Control
The concrete production was carried out under the company’s BSI registered quality assurance system. Field testing was carried out by Bureau Veritas and included testing for strength, density and surface regularity. |
