CONTRACT:Thimbleset Nursery, Fendrayton
CLIENT: Bannold
PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR: Roller Compacted Concrete Company
DATE COMPLETED: December 2006
Project Outline
The project involved the construction of a 9000m² hardstanding comprising roller compacted concrete on a cement bound base for the storage of decorative paving and hard landscaping materials. The hardstanding forms part of the redevelopment of the garden nursery into a centre specializing in essential products for the garden designer.
Pavement Details
The 150mm thick CBM2A sub-base was produced using as dug gravel from the site thereby reducing substantially the truck movements for imported material. The RCC slab was 175mm thick grade C32/40 incorporating granite aggregate.
Construction Programme
The cement bound base was laid throughout the site first giving an excellent platform on which to construct the RCC slab. The entire pavement was completed in just over 2 weeks despite some inclement weather conditions.
Concrete Production
The CBM and RCC materials were mixed on site using a high output continuous mixing plant and transported to the paver in 25t dump trucks.
Paving
Both materials were laid using a tracked paver with high compaction screed. Compaction was completed by vibratory steel drum and pneumatically tyred rollers. Curing agent was spray applied.
Quality Control
The concrete production was carried out under the company’s BSI registered quality assurance system. Field testing was carried out by Enverity and included testing for flexural and compressive strengths, and in-situ density. |
