CONTRACT: Immingham Port Pavement
CLIENT: ABP Connect
DATE COMPLETED: June 2005
Project Outline
ABP needed to upgrade a section of the port hardstanding which had failed and was no longer safe for use by container handling plant due to surface unevenness and potholes. Rather than reconstruct the area in question it was proposed to repair and regulate with a cement bound material prior to overlaying with RCC.
Pavement Details
The pavement comprised a 200mm RCC Slab on a regulating layer of CBM2 of varying thickness. The RCC had a compressive strength of 70MPa at 28 days which gives a high strength durable product.
Construction Programme
The programme had to suit the workings of a busy port and as Roller Compacted Concrete Company was already on site laying CBM on the Humber International Terminal project it was possible to change production to RCC to suit the client’s requirements. Up to 2000 square metres of RCC pavement were laid per day, which minimised the duration of disruption to the port’s activities. Top quality limestone aggregate was brought to the site by train, which reduced lorry movements on site.
Independent testing was carried out by L.J. Church / Bureau Veritas. |
